Since 2017 after the declaration of the independence of the Ambazonia, the government of French Cameroun declared war on the people of Ambazonia, arbitrary arrests and detentions, genocides and gross destruction of properties has been carried out against the Ambazonians. Also , gruesome crimes like burning families alive in houses including children, pregnant women and the elderly.
Fast forward to current events, the people of Ambazonia are living under a state of emergency and overwhelming military presence. In disguise of insecurity, they commit hideous acts against humanity to this civilians with a motive of the separatist forces are their brothers. Some of this hideous acts include;
- Illegally breaking and entering into private property.
- Abitrary arrests and imprisonment based solely on suspicion.
- Extortion through intimidation of people already living in poverty.
- Killings and public display of corpses.
I wish to point that there are more in humane action being carried out by this soldiers even though there are few individuals trying to combat this actions their effort and effectiveness are one in a thousand victims. The international community should also be aware of the role this plays in mental health and daily living of the civilians in Ambazonia and the unwavering desire for complete freedom and independence of Ambazonia. Ambazonians aren’t persistent on achieving independence because it is the easiest way to end the crisis but because it the most viable option against oppression. It should be noted that Ambazonians have been living in this condition since 2017 and no practical effort has been taken against such military militant even where there is overwhelming evidence against such personnel. Therefore I can safely conclude that this actions are effectively encouraged by their superiors which go a long way to justify the Ambazonian stances for independence.
We can also see the persecution of activists. The role of activism is to keep checks on political power. This is a fundamental human right protected under international law but in Cameroon few months ago an Ambazonian activist Abdul karim was sentenced to life imprisonment while few days ago another activist for Ambazonia visiting Cameroon was arrested in Tchad after successfully escaping capture in Ambazonia. This actions has
received no condemnation from the international community which is very sad to see. #freedom for Emmanuel Ndifor. They are trying to silence the voice of the people with force and we have to resist even harder now than before.
Summarily , i would love to say the people of Ambazonia didn’t start the war, it was declared on us because we dared to voice out our grievances. This actions made us to believe strongly that there is no brotherly love, connection or relationship between French Cameroun and Ambazonia which was the back bone of the union in first place. Therefore, independence is the only route.
